Q3 Goal Review
I have been setting quarterly goals since the start of 2023. I learned this goal setting method from John Pagulayan in his 2023 Strategic Planning Workshop. It’s about deliberately making imbalances in your calendar to make time for improving different aspects of your life. That webinar really made a mark on me and I have been implementing this method every quarter since then.
Maybe in the future I will discuss this more in-depth but for now let me share my Q3 Goals and whether or not I achieved them!
Health
- Belief: Healthier Body = Healthier Mind = Less suffering (lol)
- Vision: Run a 5k.
- Metrics: Run three times a week! (Follow N2R Program)
- Result: Partial Success. I wasn’t able to run a 5k but I managed to run a 3k by running straight for 30 minutes.
What happened?
- I was able to run for 30 minutes straight by following the None to Run Program but I only managed to run 3km for 30 minutes. (Yes I’m that sloooow)
- My momentum was gone when typhoon season came and I wasn’t able to run as consistently as I would’ve liked.
- Enrolled in a gym but wasn’t able to maximize my membership because my sleeping schedule was kind of wacky this quarter
What can be improved?
- There were a lot of times I wasn’t able to run because I didn’t get enough sleep, so maybe next quarter I can focus on the basics first: developing good sleep and eating habits.
- Still thinking about enrolling in a different gym because I wasn’t that much of a fan of the gym I enrolled to
Social
- Belief: It’s important to seek genuine connections
- Vision: Meet new people, nurture relationships with people from the communities I belong to, rekindle old friendships, retain current ones.
- Result: Success. I’m pretty happy with my social life!
What happened?
- Attended a lot of workshops and conferences, got to meet new people and was able to form genuine friendships with some!
- Was able to spend time and catch up with old friends
- Regular game nights with friends
What can be improved?
- I can be more active in my communities. It’s pretty exhausting to show up all the time so I need to balance socializing with alone time (and also I need to manage my screen time)
Career
- Belief: Best investment is self
- Vision: Keep on Upskilling and learning while building authority in chosen niche by helping people and providing value
- Result: Success, but can still work on the authority part!
What happened?
- I invested A LOT in my self during this quarter.
- Learned about Brand Strategy, UX, and even Email Copywriting!
- Was also able to have my first freelance-related speaking engagement!
What can be improved?
- For Q4, it’s about time to stop consuming and start creating!
- Apply the learnings from the coursesssss I took
Financial
- Belief: You can give more if you have more
- Vision: Finish HTYW Course, schedule a one on one consultation with NFG
- Result: I’m still at Day 23/30, haven’t gotten around scheduling just yet!
What happened?
- Going through the course, I realized that I still have a lot to work on when it comes to my finances (especially when it comes to the security part).
- While I can move forward with the remaining days, I feel like I have to go back to other days and revise my answers.
What can be improved?
- Need to put more focus on this. I didn’t really allot a lot of time on consuming the lessons and reflecting. I just consumed when I was in the mood.
Impact
- Belief: Sustainable impact over short-term solutions
- Vision: Enroll in Effective Altruism Cohort, apply learnings to Egg Nebula
- Result: Success. Got accepted and spent 8 weeks learning about EA.
What happened?
- There were a lot of readingssss lol and we met every Tuesday for 8 weeks and discussed our thoughts regarding the topic for the week (I will surely post my thoughts about this in the future!)
- I don’t fully agree with some of the teachings in EA but I think its healthy to be introduced to perspectives that are different from yours.
- I can say that the people I met here are genuinely kind and really wants to make the world a better place so I’m going to stick around with the community and see how I can contribute
What can be improved?
- Look at how I can apply the teachings of EA in the Philippine context
Mindset
- Belief: Growth Mindset over Fixed Mindset
- Vision: Consume Leo Babauta’s Fearless Living Academy Content
- Result: Wasn’t able to consume much of FLA content, but I did attend some mindset workshops. It’s a different kind of mindset though.
What happened?
- I think I just didn’t properly set measures for this goal. I didn’t have a schedule or anything to follow.
What can be improved?
- Set a SMART Goal
There were other aspects of life I didn’t include here like character and quality of life because I kinda rushed the planning they already overlap with some of the aspects here. Will make Q4 planning better!
Some Q3 Highlights
It is an understatement if I say that Q3 was an eventful quarter. I explored hard and existential crisis brought me to different spaces and communities I never knew I would be part of. I didn’t get to write at this blog for the entirety of Q3 so here goes the dump!
July: End of an Era (and Start of a New One!)
- Finished my thesis manuscript
- Enrolled in NFG’s How to YOLO Wisely Course
- Successful Figma Webinar (First Freelancing Speaking Engagement)
- Applied in Intro to Effective Altruism Cohort
- Attended Tribe Anniv
- Successful Client Website Launch!
- Graduated <3
August: Revelry
I have a separate blog post for this month that I didn’t get to publish just because.. Idk haha. I’ll just paste some of it here (since this is just a dump anyway).
revel verb
- to get great pleasure from a situation or an activity:
- To take much pleasure; delight
She’s reveling in her newly found freedom.
I decided to give every month of my life a theme, and for August the theme was revelry. August was a month of celebration– or at least that’s what was I initially planned it to be (a friend even jokingly told me that it was my era’s tour lol).
I scheduled a bunch of meetups with friends (my weekends were fully-booked!) but aside from the celebrations, August was also a month of learning (well, every month is, but this month especially, ok). I worked hard and played hard and I met a lot of people and learned a lot from them.
Celebrations
You probably won’t care about this but maybe you are looking for some group celebration ideas, so feel free to read along:
Photoshoot + Karaoke with College Friends
This was included in my vision board for this year– to have a picture with my college friends while wearing our sablays. We don’t take pictures as a friend group that much so this was such a nice change for all of us haha. Then we went to karaoke afterwards. Good times, good times.
Sip and Gogh with high school friends
Wine and Paint! A very relaxing tita experience (except for the fact that my clumsy self managed to break a wine glass). I’m not used to painting in traditional mediums, so I guess this was a nice first attempt at painting on canvas. Will surely bring other friends here in the future! (#ahrt)
Fifthwheeling at Ace Water Spa xd
It was my first time in a spa and I really looked forward to this day because I was extremely stressed the days prior– and it delivered! I loved floating in the waters with my eyes closed; I swear I could spend hours just floating. The hot pools were also sooo relaxing, as well as the ice-cold pool (which I thought I wouldn’t like).
Also loved that it can be a family activity– there were a lot of elderly people there as well as kids. 10/10 will invite my family/friends next time.
Bonus: Mom’s Bday Celebration
Got to treat my family with some delicious Japanese food. I think it was my first time treating them (outside of Food Panda/grab deliveries), and I would love to do it more often in the future.
Learning and Growing le network
Effective Altruism (EA)
Surely one of the highlights of my August was being able to be a part of the cohort for Intro to EA. It’s an 8-week program discussing the concepts of effective altruism– a concept about making the greatest positive impact through deliberate and well-informed choices in charitable actions.
It is an interesting concept (even though I don’t completely agree with some). The people there were all nice though and they were open to have discussions so I still think that it is a good community to be a part of. I also got free books!
Also attended an in-person meet-up with EA Philippines. It’s good to hear local perspectives since EA is very much a western concept and some of the concepts aren’t really feasible to do here in PH.
Branding Workshop
I’ve been offering branding as a service but I am mostly focused on the visual branding part so I enrolled in this face to face workshop. This was my first in-person workshop after the pandemic and it was worth it. I learned a lot about brand strategy and met a lot of cool people, got to delve deeper about my brand too!
Impromptu Ramen Nagi Meetup with Kage and friends
One day when I was scrolling through my feed, I came across Kage’s fb post inviting his friends for a Ramen Nagi food trip. I happened to live near the place so I went there lol. And I’m glad I did.
Also got to spend time with these two beautiful ladies– Anne and Faith. I had some on the spot life coaching because I told them about my existential crisis. xd These ladies are also a part of the NFG multiverse lol (which I also enrolled to so needless to say we had a long convo).
September: Possibilities
- Successful Client Website Launch (and another one coming hihi)!
- Joined Accessibility Internet Rally (excited to build an accessible website for nvrc.org)
- Enrolled in John Pagulayan and Allan Ngo’s Email Marketing Course
- Attended Millionaire Mind Intensive 🙈 It’s not the kind of event I typically attend– just joined to meet the people from the Patatas Fam– but I ended up enjoying it. (Even won the raffle haha!) I have a lotttt of reflections about this (I’ll write them when I have the energy lol)
- Enrolled in Harv T. Eker’s Quantum Leap Program 🙈 (Another bullet point full of stories for later)
- Attended UX+ Conference (and met Web Accessibility PH + Webflow PH people!)
- First of many telescope donations! <3
- Completed Intro to Effective Altruism Cohort!
Conclusion
This quarter was a transition period for me (Hi, life after graduation!) and I allowed myself to explore different things, consume different stuff, and see what resonates. It was an eventful quarter– exhausting but fulfilling at the same time.
Next quarter I would like to focus my energy on creating and applying the things that I have learned. (Will do a separate blog post for Q4 planning!)
That’s all for now,
Rheanne
